Yoga Fun & Games
Yoga is not just healthy it's fun as well!
Welcome to the Fun section of yoga for Kids. Yoga is not only healthy and spiritual it is also fun!
Musical Mats - Instead of racing for the last open chair, in this game, kids race for last open mat. The catch is that they also have to strike an impromptu yoga pose of their choice to secure their spot.
Simon Says,"Cobra Pose!" - This game is a great way for kids to learn actual yoga postures by testing their retention. The basic rules for the traditional Simon Says apply, except kids are told (and sometimes tricked!) to do a common posture, like downward facing dog.
Red En-Light-en, Green En-Light-en - Kids utilize their strength and practice their balance in this game. Kids choose a specific posture to freeze in when "red light" is called. Postures that challenge strength and stillness are best, like warrior or tree pose, because children must hold them. Once "green light" is called, kids are free to make their way to the finish line, and the first one there is "enlightened!"
In Kids' Yoga it is important to always approach yoga postures in a way that makes them relatable and familiar for the children. Storytelling, sound, and participation are great ways to further encourage kids to discover themselves and their surroundings through yoga.
Pose of the Week!
This weeks pose: The Chair Pose
This week's pose is the chair pose. It's fairly simple, but it makes your legs tired, so I guess that means they are working. It also makes you look a little funny.
So you stand on the floor, with your feet as far apart as your shoulders. You put your arms straight up above your head. Then, while you keep your back straight (one of the hardest parts for me) you sit like you are sitting in a chair. Except, there is no chair. Anyway, it sounds easy, but if you are doing it with the right form, it will be really hard at first.
See how long you and your kids can stay in this pose. I keep it a lot longer than my mom, but I practice it a lot more too. Start with 10 seconds if you can, then hold it longer each time. If you can get to 30 seconds, that's perfect!
Yoga Jokes!

What did the Yogi say when he walked into the Pizza Parlor?
"Make me one with everything."
When the Yogi got the pizza, he gave the proprietor a $20 bill.

The proprietor said, "Change must come from within.”
